Yes. To all.

Step back.

Trump does everything in the larger picture of the country with information we don’t have.

What we do have; a base, a people and a rising youth who need to see decisive action, however imperfect.

(I have interpreter and Iraqi friends myself).

I don’t agree with everything Trump does, but I’m no Judge.

What is interesting is why does this character drive cross country to DC when he had plenty of other places to go to get Guardsmen deployed in cities. His timing to become suddenly schizophrenic is shortly after the threat about unlawful orders is issued.

(It’s unlawful if D gets into power is the threat).

And excellent information all around Sir. Much we didn’t know.

And we’ll probably never know either.

Still—He fncked killed one and attempted to kill another! That is wrong! Why was he naked? He knew what he was doing! No excuse!

Tim Lynch's avatar

He absolutely did that and will pay for his crimes to the full extent of the law.

Well god I ought check my tongue but you realize in Greek times they ran the marathon naked! So when Athens was about to be attacked by Persia - that fella - what was his name - ran to Sparta only to be told - we are in the middle of "celebration" time - and so he ran back promptly perished at the feet to the leader of Athens, but they defended against the attacking Persians - without the help of Sparta - only to be attacked by Sparta a few generations later after they got all cozy and comfortable I reckon......

And no wonder Greece is just a shadow of itself today!

~

Now - I probably ought not click the "Reply" button just now - but what you got against a man naked - in the Olympics in the old days - that is how they all played!

~

So - take the "naked" out of the equation - what does that have to do with the price of bread I ask fairly?

~

From the Brave ai I quote:

Pheidippides, an Athenian hemerodromos (day-runner), ran from Athens to Sparta in 490 BC to request military aid against the Persian invasion at Marathon. There is no historical evidence that he ran naked. The idea of nudity in ancient Greek running is associated with other figures, such as Orsippus of Megara, who reportedly lost his loincloth during a race and continued running, setting a precedent for athletic nudity. Pheidippides' legendary run covered approximately 153 miles (246 km) and was completed in about two days, according to Herodotus.

~

My guess is he did NOT run naked - cause that would of been super foolish - and diminished his chances of getting to Sparta - but he ran the 153 miles nonetheless - and then no assistance was provided. That is telling.

~

So to bring this potentially off-topic tirade of commentary to conclusion regarding nudity and whatnot - this is history - as it is presently understood (from the Brave ai again - ha, ha):

~

Sparta agreed to assist Athens when the Persians attacked at Marathon in 490 BC, but their help arrived too late. After receiving the plea from Athens—delivered by the runner Pheidippides—the Spartans agreed to send troops. However, they were in the middle of a religious festival (the Carneia) and could not march until the full moon, delaying their arrival by several days.

By the time the Spartan army reached Marathon, the battle was already over. The Athenians, supported only by a small contingent from Plataea, had defeated the Persians without Spartan military aid. The Spartans did march to Marathon after the battle, confirming their commitment, but they played no role in the fighting.

I assume he was naked because he's Muslim and thought he'd be going to paradise. You don't want to waste time getting undressed when you're about to get it on with 72 virgins.

Tim Lynch's avatar

I would bet he was stripped to ensure he was not hiding explosives on him.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Explosions nowadays can be held within internally - even if one is naked Tim.

Just saying.......

Helluva a good article. At some point the truth cannot be stifled.

ps - my mother and I in Charlotte, NC used to go to these apartments in the late 1970's housed folks fled Vietnam - and the folks there just wanted to get somewhere better. So hope what you say about those from Somali is not projecting out something - but perhaps that is something needs to be looked into - face-to-face. My mother was a kind soul through and through and we went there to assist them in getting used to the new place different than the place they fled.

Tim Lynch's avatar

I know that Vietnamese jumped into commercial fishing along the Texas coast and dominated the industry for one generation by outworking the competition. The second generation went to medical or engineering schools. The Afghans won't be able to do that because IQ and cultural norms determine who thrives in a semi-free-market economy, but we can hope that most of them do. I know the first thing my former terps did when they arrived here was to leave Islam, and that's a good start.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

What you are speaking of is nuanced. The Vietnamese citizens - everyday folks literally FORCED to either flee their homeland or leave for the sake of their family's future - were burdened by the effort that took and I'm sure the younger ones picked up on it - I think that is a truism no matter how you get moved from Point A to Point B - no matter ideology. I suppose it does depend on the family unit - and that is the unit of humanity - is it not Tim.

But there is a difference twixt that versus opening up the flood-gates and inviting some in who really didn't struggle necessarily - they are just seeking somewhere easier on the cheap....some of them might have merit, but the circumstances are very different.

As for religions - I am a firm believer in separation of that with governance.

The two ought not mix is what the Founders thought - and that was just one of their good ideas - too bad so much of what is in the Constitution is basically "disregarded" these days or treated with disdain. This a shame and it spells - big changes on the way I reckon Tim.

Happy Holidays to you and family,

Ken

You know, Ken, the Afghans have strong family units, but they are not remotely like the Vietnamese. I suspect the cultural gulf between South and Central Asia is both broad and deep, and I don't think that can be attributed exclusively to Islam.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

How could it be ascribed to Islam when it formed before Islam even was on the scene Tim. Some things run deep - and nuance there is - but I trust you got a better sense of that than most.

STILL - I say STILL - Smedley Butler - the most decorated Marine in his time concluded - "War is a Racket" - what you think Tim. I've made up my mind. It is.

So bring this in my mind to "bloody conclusion" - the Spartans do theirselves no favors in training boys to be "mean sons of bitches" - but Athens likewise loses its way when folks get so comfortable and entitled - tis a quandary - ying yang and such - and time will tell - but seems evident - big changes are on the way. Upon that at least - I hope we concur. If push comes to shove I'd just assume these days have neighbors from Sparta versus Athens - but time will tell.

Tim Lynch's avatar

Modern war is an obvious racket, easily verified by watching the billions allocated for new Navy ships disappear without any new vessels. The infusion of women throughout the force structure is another indication that we have a military that doesn't take fighting as seriously as it does football. As for Islam, the only solution I see is the Carthaginian Solution, but we will have to endure the level of atrocities and carnage that drove Sri Lanka to stop pussy footing around and kill everybody they even thought might be a Tamil Tiger, regardless of gender and age. The sad fact that no modern thinker wants to admit is that the Carthaginian Solution works... Every time.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Yo Tim - I'll tell you one idea whose time has come. That is the idea of the elitist stifled Kropotkin. Twas the beginning of the 20th century - these elitist think they are invincible, but you and I know War is a Racket - and I think this - Smedley suffers no fools!

So - no need to eliminate the opposition nowadays - just have better ideas - prove them wrong - that is what Smedley whispered in my ear!
